Utah Tech women’s tennis completed its regular season with two wins over Colorado Mesa on Apr. 10, finishing the year with an even record.
The doubleheader took place on senior day and saw Utah Tech secure a 5-2 victory in both matches. In the first match, Colorado Mesa claimed the doubles point by winning at positions No. 2 and No. 3, but Utah Tech responded by taking five of six singles matches. Seniors Nicole Kells and Raquel Roshak contributed early singles victories, helping set the tone for the Trailblazers’ win.
In doubles play during game one, Mariana Zurita Berdecio and Ana Gutierrez Sampere won their match at No. 1 doubles, though it was not enough to earn the overall point for Utah Tech. The team rebounded in singles as Zurita Berdecio, Gutierrez Sampere, Maya Inouye, Kells, and Roshak all recorded wins.
For the second match of the day, Utah Tech reversed its fortunes in doubles by claiming victories at No. 1 and No. 3 positions—Maya Inouye and Raquel Roshak teamed up for just their second time this season to pick up a decisive win together.
In singles play during game two, Gutierrez Sampere and Inouye each earned straight-set wins while Roshak added her third victory of senior day at Singles No. 5.
The Trailblazers finished their regular season with an overall record of 11-11—their highest win total since moving to Division I—and swept all three meetings against Colorado Mesa this year.
Next week, Utah Tech will compete in the Western Athletic Conference Championships scheduled for Apr. 17-18 in Arlington.
