Utah Tech women’s tennis team was defeated by Colorado with a score of 7-0 on Saturday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex in Las Vegas. The Buffaloes, who improved their record to 8-2, secured the doubles point by winning at both first and second doubles positions. The third doubles match, featuring Utah Tech freshmen Cameron Hendrix and Ilse Fernanda Elechiguerra Ortega against Colorado’s Heidi Crncan and Willow Gretsch, was left unfinished with the Buffaloes leading 4-3.

Colorado entered the match following a win earlier in the day against Gonzaga and maintained their momentum throughout singles play. They won all six singles matches, resulting in a sweep over Utah Tech.

The Trailblazers now hold a 3-7 record for the season. Their next competition will be a two-match road trip in Grand Junction, Colorado, where they will face Colorado Mesa and Colorado College on February 27 and 28.

Match results included Rixt van der Werff and Lera Alexin defeating M. Zurita Berdecio and A. Gutierrez Sampere 6-1 in doubles, while Anya Nelson and Lani Brotman overcame Maya Inouye and Nutsa Tsintsadze 6-2. In singles play, van der Werff also won against Zurita Berdecio with scores of 6-1, 6-1.

The Trailblazers aim to regroup ahead of their upcoming matches against familiar opponents from their time in the RMAC conference.
