Utah Tech women’s tennis defeated Montana 5-2 on Mar. 27, securing their fourth consecutive victory.
The win is significant for the Trailblazers, who now hold a 9-10 record and are building momentum as they approach conference play. The match began with a close doubles competition, where Utah Tech and Montana split victories at Doubles No. 1 and No. 3. The decisive point came down to Doubles No. 2, which Montana won in a tiebreaker.
In singles play, after dropping the first match at Singles No. 1, Utah Tech swept the remaining five matches. Maya Inouye and Nutsa Tsintsadze led the team with strong performances at Singles No. 3 and No. 4 respectively, each earning their ninth singles win of the season and extending their individual winning streaks to three matches.
Freshman Cameron Hendrix continued her impressive debut season by winning her match at Singles No. 5 in straight sets for her team-leading eleventh singles victory; she is now three wins away from tying the school record for single-season singles victories and has extended her own win streak to four matches.
Ana Gutierrez Sampere secured a hard-fought comeback victory at Singles No. 2 after losing the first set but battling back through a tiebreaker to force—and ultimately win—a third set.
Head Coach Eric Pelton said after the match: “So proud and impressed by these girls and all that they are accomplishing! They have put in the work and it is paying off as they continue to exceed expectations.” The Trailblazers will next face Tarleton State in their only scheduled conference game of the season.
