Utah Tech women’s tennis defeated Ottawa University (AZ) with a 7-0 sweep on March 11 at the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex in Arizona. The Trailblazers, now holding a 6-10 record for the season, secured their third sweep and ended a three-match losing streak.

The win is significant as it marks another strong performance for Utah Tech, which has faced two separate three-match losing streaks this season. The team dominated doubles play, winning all three matches. Freshmen Cameron Hendrix and Ilse Fernanda Elechiguerra Ortega stood out by claiming a 6-1 victory at Doubles No. 3, marking their third doubles win together this year and breaking their own three-match skid.

Momentum from doubles carried into singles competition, where Utah Tech won all six matches without dropping a set. Sophomore Maya Inouye delivered a commanding performance at Singles No. 3, shutting out her opponent in both sets to earn her seventh singles win of the season. Nutsa Tsintsadze, Cameron Hendrix, and Nicole Kells also posted decisive victories at Singles No’s. 4, 5, and 6 respectively; each dropped just one game per match. For Kells, it was her second consecutive singles win at the No. 6 slot.

Other notable results included M. Zurita Berdecio defeating Martina Antich (OUAZ) 6-1, 6-1 at Singles No. 1 and A. Gutierrez Sampere overcoming Michelle Pugh (OUAZ) with scores of 6-4, 6-3 at Singles No. 2.

The Trailblazers will wrap up their Arizona road trip on Friday, March 13 with a doubleheader against Mesa Community College starting at 10 a.m.
