Utah Tech women’s tennis lost to the University of Utah, 6-1, at the Trailblazer Tennis Courts on March 9.
The match saw Utah take control early by winning doubles matches at positions two and three. The first doubles match, featuring Mariana Zurita Berdecio and Ana Gutierrez Sampere for Utah Tech, was closely contested but went unfinished at a score of 5-4 after Utah secured the doubles point.
In singles play, senior Nicole Kells earned the only point for Utah Tech with a decisive win in straight sets (6-1, 6-0) at position six. Freshman Cameron Hendrix pushed her match at position five to a third-set tiebreaker but ultimately fell short. Overall, Utah won five out of six singles matches to secure the team victory.
The detailed results included wins for Utah’s Kaila Barksdale and Emmie Moore in doubles (6-1), as well as Emma Valletta and Kamea Medora (6-0). In singles, Sara Akid defeated Zurita Berdecio (6-1, 6-0), Barksdale beat Gutierrez Sampere (6-0, 6-0), Valletta overcame Maya Inouye (6-1, 6-1), Dylan Lolofie bested Nutsa Tsintsadze (6-2, 6-3), and Medora edged out Hendrix in a close contest (3-6, 6-1, 7-6 [10-5]).
Looking ahead, the Trailblazers will travel to Arizona for three matches starting Wednesday, March 11 against Ottawa University.
