Utah Tech women’s tennis team secured a 6-1 victory over Colorado College on Saturday morning, wrapping up a successful two-match road trip in Grand Junction. The Trailblazers improved their season record to 5-7 with the win.
The doubles matches set the tone for Utah Tech. Ana Gutierrez Sampere and Mariana Zurita Berdecio won their match 6-2, while freshmen Ilse Fernanda Elechiguerra Ortega and Cameron Hendrix clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win at No. 3. Nutsa Tsintsadze and Maya Inouye completed the sweep with a close 7-5 result in their match.
In singles play, Utah Tech continued its strong performance. Nutsa Tsintsadze claimed victory at No. 4 singles in straight sets, 6-0 and 6-3. Ana Gutierrez Sampere also won her match at No. 2 singles, finishing with scores of 6-2 and 6-1.
Freshman Cameron Hendrix contributed another point by winning her singles match in two sets (6-2, 6-3), improving her individual record to a team-best of 7-3 this season.
Colorado College managed to force three tiebreaking sets during the morning’s matches but only came away with one win as Utah Tech prevailed in two of those contests.
Coach Pelton commented on his team’s effort: “It was a great weekend! They worked on things and really played well! Proud of their hard work and efforts to keep improving and getting better every day!”
The Trailblazers will return home for a three-match homestand starting Thursday, March 5 against New Mexico State.
