Utah Tech University’s women’s golf team is set to compete in the Southern Utah/Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational this weekend. The event will take place over three days at Sunbrook Golf Club in St. George, featuring a 54-hole format on the par-72, 5,914-yard course. Each round begins with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m., utilizing The Pointe and Blackrock nine-hole courses.
The tournament field consists of nine teams, including Western Athletic Conference (WAC) members Southern Utah University (SUU) and Utah Valley. Other participating schools are Weber State, Idaho State, Omaha, Loyola-Chicago, Stetson, and Wyoming.
Utah Tech’s lineup for the event includes seniors Jenna Anderson and Jane Olson; juniors Mia Cesarek and Samantha Phelan; and sophomore Maria Purroy Galan. Three additional players—redshirt junior Samira Salinas, redshirt freshman Gabrielle Roznicki, and freshman Coryn Tardiff—will compete as individuals.
Head coach Lindsey Orth is leading the Trailblazers in her tenth season. “Last season, Coach Orth finished its fifth season of NCAA Division I play with four top-5 showings in nine team events, highlighted by a t-second place finish at the Utah Valley Wigwam Preview in February (2/2-4/25), and a seventh-place showing at the 2025 WAC Championships,” according to information from Utah Tech. Before joining Utah Tech, Orth worked as an assistant golf professional at Sand Hollow Golf Resort and as an LPGA assistant teaching professional for the City of St. George. She also coached at Hurricane High School and played collegiately at the University of Central Arkansas.
In their most recent outing at the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational hosted by Western Michigan last month in Arizona, Utah Tech finished twelfth out of nineteen teams. The Trailblazers improved their position after a strong second round but were unable to maintain momentum in the final round. Olson and Cesarek led the team by tying for 30th place individually.
Through six events this season, Anderson leads the team with a stroke average of 74.25 and has one individual win at the Weber State-hosted Utah Fall Intercollegiate earlier this year. Purroy Galan follows with an average of 74.88 over sixteen rounds and has recorded six par or better rounds along with one top-10 finish. Cesarek is third on the team with a 75.18 average.
Following this weekend’s tournament in St. George, Utah Tech will travel to Arizona for their next competition—the Bell Bank Pay It Forward Classic hosted by Minnesota on March 23-24 at The Wigwam Resort in Litchfield Park.
