Utah Tech was defeated by California Baptist University, 6-0, on April 26 at Totman Stadium. The loss prevented the Trailblazers from securing a second consecutive road Western Athletic Conference series win.
The game began with Utah Tech (28-16 overall, 6-3 WAC) going down in order in the first inning. California Baptist (33-11 overall, 7-5 WAC) then took an early lead after its first three batters reached base and Cole Hansen hit a three-run home run.
California Baptist extended its advantage to 5-0 in the third inning when Connor Ross hit a two-run home run over the centerfield wall. Throughout the game, CBU pitcher Ryne Palmer limited Utah Tech’s offense to just two base runners until Ryan Kroepel managed a two-out double in the sixth inning.
In the seventh inning, Ty Johnsen led off with an infield single for Utah Tech but no further hits followed that frame. The Trailblazers finished with only two hits and were held scoreless for just the second time this season.
Utah Tech is scheduled to return home for four consecutive games, starting with a matchup against UNLV on Tuesday night, April 28 at Bruce Hurst Field. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m.
