Utah Tech completed a series sweep of Utah Valley with a 13-10 victory on Apr. 19, tying an NCAA-era school record for triples and recording a season-high 19 hits at UCCU Ballpark.
The win moves Utah Tech (26-14/5-1 Western Athletic Conference) into first place in the conference standings and extends their current winning streak to four games. The Trailblazers scored in each of their first four innings, building an early lead that proved decisive.
After the teams were tied at one run apiece following the first inning, Kyle McDaniel hit a single that brought home two runners for Utah Tech. Hudson Manwaring added another RBI-single, followed by Miller Durham’s base hit that extended the lead to 5-1. Despite efforts from Utah Valley (15-24/1-5 WAC) to close the gap throughout the game, including multiple runs in later innings, Utah Tech maintained control with timely hitting and strong relief pitching.
Finnegan Stewart stood out by becoming only the second player in program history during its NCAA era to record two triples in one game, going 4-for-4 with three RBIs and four runs scored—just one home run short of hitting for the cycle. Stewart was also noted as “the first to do it during the Blazers’ brief time as a Division I program.” The team’s three triples tied a record set previously in 2015.
Miller Durham contributed significantly as well, going 4-for-6 at bat and maintaining his streak of multi-hit games. Petey Soto Jr. extended his career-long hitting streak to thirteen consecutive games and reached base safely for thirty-three straight games.
Looking ahead, Utah Tech will wrap up its road trip against BYU on Monday night at Miller Park.
