The Utah Tech Trailblazers lost the series finale to the Southern Utah Thunderbirds on March 28, falling 12-4 in five innings at Karl Brooks Field.
This result leaves Utah Tech with a record of 13-21 overall and 3-3 in Western Athletic Conference play. The game saw contributions from several players, with Kennedy Embrey and Baylee Howley each recording two hits. Kinley Pappas notched her team-leading fifteenth double of the season, while Sadie Phillips hit her first triple and drew a walk.
Starting pitcher Sauren Garton made her fifteenth start for the Trailblazers, pitching two innings and allowing six hits and seven runs—three of them earned—while striking out one batter. Riley Price and Lexie Wilson combined for three strikeouts over the final three innings.
The Trailblazers took an early lead with RBI singles from Lakaiya-Braessia Kahahawai-Kekona and Embrey in the first inning. However, Southern Utah responded with five runs in the second inning—including a three-run single—and added more offense with a two-run home run in the third. By the fourth inning, their lead had grown to 10-2. Phillips provided some hope for Utah Tech by driving in two runs on a triple down the right field line during the bottom of that frame.
Southern Utah added two more runs in the fifth inning to make it 12-4. Despite singles by Embrey and Howley late in the game, a flyout by pinch-hitter Jayda Gleave ended any chance of a comeback as Southern Utah secured victory via run-rule.
Looking ahead, Utah Tech will travel next weekend to face California Baptist University.
