The Utah Tech Trailblazers lost to UT Arlington, 9-4, in the series finale on April 18 at Karl Brooks Field.
The game saw Utah Tech (16-28, 3-9 Western Athletic Conference) record 11 hits but struggle to recover from an early seven-run deficit. The loss marks the fourth straight defeat for the Trailblazers.
Sophomore Kinley Pappas led the team with her tenth home run of the season and added a single. Baylee Howley and Abby Davidson also contributed two hits each. Jayda Gleave and Kennedy Embrey both hit doubles, while Maka Sonognini recorded her second triple of the year.
Pitcher Sauren Garton started for Utah Tech, allowing seven hits and six runs over just more than two innings before Delaney Wright finished out the game in relief.
UT Arlington (21-21, 9-6 WAC) took control early with a two-run double in the first inning followed by a five-run second inning that included a grand slam. Although Pappas put Utah Tech on the board with a solo home run in the third inning, additional RBI singles by UT Arlington extended their lead to 9-1 by the sixth. The Trailblazers scored three late runs through efforts from Howley, Gleave—who drove home Sonognini—and Davidson after an error.
Looking ahead, Utah Tech will travel to Texas next weekend for their final road series of the regular season against Tarleton State.
