Utah Tech will play against California Baptist in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Tournament semifinals on March 13 at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. The Trailblazers, seeded third with a 19-14 record, will take on the second-seeded Lancers, who finished the regular season at 23-8.
This matchup is significant as both teams have shown strong performances throughout the season and are vying for a spot in the tournament final. Utah Tech leads the all-time series against California Baptist, 15-13, but trails in Division I meetings with CBU holding a 7-5 advantage.
California Baptist enters the game after winning four straight and 13 of their last 15 games. The Lancers lead the WAC in field goal percentage defense and rebounds per game, and are led by WAC Player of the Year Dominique Daniels Jr., along with Martel Williams and Jordan Muller. Daniels Jr. tops the conference in points per game (22.6) and minutes played.
Utah Tech advanced to the semifinals after defeating Abilene Christian, 80-74, in Thursday’s quarterfinals. Ethan Potter led with 25 points and seven rebounds, while Britton Berrett added 12 points and Chance Trujillo contributed off the bench. The Trailblazers shot over 55 percent from the field during that game.
The Trailblazers have won nine of their last twelve games and are averaging nearly 79 points per contest during that stretch. Potter recently surpassed his collegiate career milestone of 1,000 points. Utah Tech has also demonstrated consistency by shooting at least 40 percent from the field and making six or more three-pointers in each of their wins this season.
Looking ahead, both teams aim to secure a place in the WAC Tournament final as they continue their postseason campaigns.
