Utah Tech will compete for its first conference title at the final Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Women’s Golf Championships, according to an April 18 announcement. The three-day tournament is set to take place from Monday through Wednesday at The Clubs of Stonebridge Ranch Hills Course in McKinney, Texas.
The event marks a significant moment for Utah Tech as it seeks its first-ever WAC championship before transitioning to a new conference. In June of last year, Utah Tech announced it would join the Big Sky Conference starting July 1, 2026. Beginning with the 2026-27 season, most of Utah Tech’s sports programs—including women’s golf—will compete under the Big Sky banner.
The Trailblazers’ lineup for this year’s championship includes senior Jane Olson, juniors Mia Cesarek and Samantha Phelan, sophomore Maria Purroy Galan, and redshirt freshman Gabrielle Roznicki. Senior Jenna Anderson will travel as the team’s first alternate.
Head coach Lindsey Orth is leading the program in her tenth season. Last season marked Utah Tech’s fifth year competing at the NCAA Division I level; under Orth’s guidance, the team recorded four top-five finishes in nine events and secured seventh place at last year’s WAC Championships. Before joining Utah Tech, Orth served as assistant golf professional at Sand Hollow Golf Resort and was an LPGA assistant teaching professional for St. George city. She also coached high school girls’ golf and played collegiately at University of Central Arkansas.
Junior Samantha Phelan recently earned WAC Player of the Week honors following her performance at Montana State Bobcat Desert Classic where she finished tied for second place—her best collegiate finish so far—and helped lead Utah Tech to third place overall.
As they prepare for this week’s championship event, Purroy Galan leads the team with a stroke average of 74.36 over 25 rounds this season; Phelan follows closely behind with a stroke average of 74.73 and a team-high four top-10 finishes.
The winner of this year’s WAC Women’s Golf Championship will receive an automatic bid into the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Regionals scheduled for May 11-13.
