Utah Tech’s women’s track and field team began the 2025 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships by qualifying five athletes for finals, setting two new program records, and finishing in second place in one event on Friday at The Podium in Spokane, Washington. At the end of the first day, Utah Tech is in sixth place overall with 14 points.

Senior Megan Jenkins set a new school record in the pentathlon with 3,537 total points. Jenkins started strong by placing third in the 60-meter hurdles and improved her position by finishing fourth in the 800-meter race, moving up two spots in the final standings.

Jenkins also qualified for Saturday’s final of the 60-meter hurdles after posting a time of 8.67 seconds during Friday’s preliminaries. That final will take place at 4:05 p.m. MST.

In the mile event, both Hailee Phillips and Makayla Pitcher advanced to Saturday’s final scheduled for 3:40 p.m. MST. Phillips achieved a personal best and was close to surpassing the program’s mile record.

Freshman Hannah Bingham qualified for tomorrow’s finals with a time of 57.11 seconds in the 400-meter race, while junior Whitney Christiansen moved forward to compete in Saturday’s final of the 800 meters. The finals for these events are set for late Saturday afternoon.

The distance medley relay team—composed of Phillips, Christiansen, Savannah Rydalch, and Pitcher—finished second with a time of 11:57.73, which established another program record and earned eight points for Utah Tech.

The Trailblazers scored additional points from Averie Perriton’s performance in the 5000 meter (17:05.99), contributing two more team points.

The championships conclude on Saturday at The Podium as Utah Tech looks to build on its early results.
