Utah Tech University sophomore pitcher Talan Kelly has been recognized as the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Baseball Pitcher of the Week. The announcement was made on Monday, following his performance during Utah Tech’s four-game home sweep against Northern Colorado.
Kelly, a right-handed pitcher from Santa Clara, Utah and graduate of Snow Canyon High School, appeared in two relief outings over the weekend. He earned one win and recorded five strikeouts across 2.1 innings pitched.
In Saturday’s game three, Kelly struck out all three batters he faced in the ninth inning to help secure an 11-5 victory for the Trailblazers. He then added two more strikeouts over 1.1 innings in Sunday’s final game of the series, earning the win as Utah Tech claimed a 6-4 walk-off result.
So far this season, Kelly has compiled a 2-0 record with eight strikeouts and a 1.69 ERA through 5.1 innings in four bullpen appearances.
The Trailblazers currently hold an 11-1 record and will conclude their eight-game homestand with a four-game series against Austin Peay beginning Thursday at Bruce Hurst Field.
