Utah Tech men’s golf team will compete at the Seattle U Redhawk Invitational, presented by L.A.B. Golf, on March 30 and 31 at Chambers Bay Golf Course in University Park. The event will feature a two-day, 54-hole format on the par-72, 7,124-yard course that hosted the 2015 United States Open.
The tournament field includes Utah Tech and host Seattle University, as well as teams from Abilene Christian, UC Riverside, UC San Diego, Creighton, Eastern Washington, George Mason, Gonzaga, Idaho, New Haven, Sacramento State, Simon Fraser and St. Thomas. Utah Tech’s lineup consists of juniors Braden Anderson and Ashton McArthur; sophomore Frank Miao; and freshmen David Liechty and Joe Zhou.
Head coach Brad Sutterfield is in his fourteenth season leading the program. Last season under Sutterfield’s guidance saw seven top-eight finishes in ten events for Utah Tech men’s golf. Their best result was a runner-up finish at the Colorado State Ram Masters Invitational in September 2024 along with a seventh-place showing at the Western Athletic Conference Championships in spring of 2025. In previous years under Sutterfield’s leadership—including during their time competing in NCAA Division II—the Trailblazers have achieved multiple conference titles and strong national performances.
At their last outing earlier this month at the Idaho Bandon Dunes Championships held at Pacific Dunes Golf Course in Oregon from March 8-10, Utah Tech finished thirteenth overall after opening with a strong round but falling back over subsequent rounds. Notable individual performances included McArthur tying for thirteenth place overall with rounds of 69-73-69 (211), Liechty recording only the second hole-in-one in event history during his opening round en route to finishing thirty-fourth (216), and Zhou matching Liechty’s first-round score before ending tied for fifty-first (220).
Through seven events this season so far: Liechty leads active players with an average score of 72.13 per round including eleven par or better rounds; McArthur follows closely behind averaging 72.22; Miao is third among starters with an average of 73.27; Zhou averages fourth-best at 76.80; Anderson holds an average of 77.56.
Looking ahead beyond this week’s invitational: Utah Tech is scheduled to close out its regular season by participating in the UC Santa Barbara Gaucho Invitational April 6–7 at Sandpiper Golf Club.
