Utah Tech advanced to sixth place on Apr. 28 during the second day of the 2026 Western Athletic Conference Men’s Golf Championships at The Clubs of Stonebridge Ranch Dye Course in McKinney, Texas.
The team’s performance matters as it shows improvement and competitiveness in a key conference event. Utah Tech improved its score by 18 strokes from the first round, moving up one spot on the leaderboard.
After an opening round score of 22-over par 310, Utah Tech recorded a team total of four-over par 292 on Tuesday. This was the second-lowest team score of the day and allowed them to surpass Southern Utah for sixth place with a combined plus-26 total of 602. Tarleton State led after two rounds with a plus-10 total of 586, followed by UT Arlington at plus-12 and Abilene Christian at plus-15.
Redshirt junior Braden Anderson helped lead Utah Tech’s improvement by shooting a career-low one-under-par 71, bettering his previous day’s score by eleven shots and moving into a tie for twenty-third place overall. Freshman David Liechty also made gains with an even-par round that lifted him twelve spots into thirteenth place individually. Other notable performances included freshman Joe Zhou improving by eleven strokes for a one-over-par round, junior Ashton McArthur finishing tied for fourteenth, and freshman Frank Miao joining Anderson in twenty-third position after recording two birdies.
The Trailblazers will aim to continue their progress during Wednesday’s final round, which begins at 7 a.m. Mountain Time.
