Utah Tech finished the first day of the 2026 Western Athletic Conference Men’s Golf Championships in seventh place, according to an April 27 update from the team. The event is being held at The Clubs of Stonebridge Ranch Dye Course in McKinney, Texas.
The Trailblazers recorded a team score of 22-over par 310 for the opening round. They are seven strokes behind Utah Valley and Southern Utah, both tied for fifth place with scores of 303 (+15). UT Arlington leads after day one with a score of plus-4 (292), followed by Abilene Christian at plus-7 (295) and Tarleton State at plus-10 (298). California Baptist holds fourth place at plus-14 (302).
Sophomore Frank Miao and junior Ashton McArthur led Utah Tech on Monday, each posting a score of three-over-par 75 to tie for tenth place alongside five other players. “Miao rolled in a team-high five birdies on his opening loop, four of which came on his front nine as he went out in even par 36,” according to the team’s report. McArthur also contributed with two birdies and twelve pars during his round.
Freshman David Liechty carded two birdies as part of a six-over-par 78, placing him in a tie for twenty-fifth. Junior Braden Anderson finished ten-over-par (82) to stand tied for thirty-second after the first round, while freshman Joe Zhou sits alone in thirty-fifth place with a twelve-over-par score (84).
Tournament play continues Tuesday morning starting at 7 a.m., when Utah Tech will look to improve its standing going into subsequent rounds.
