Utah Tech finished in 13th place at the 29th Idaho Bandon Dunes Championships, which concluded on March 11 at the Pacific Dunes Golf Course in Bandon, Oregon.
The event saw Utah Tech start strong with a 5-under-par score of 279 on Sunday, tying for third place after the first round. The team faced tougher conditions during Monday’s second round and posted a combined score of 304, dropping nine spots to twelfth. On the final day, Utah Tech improved by five strokes with a team score of 299, ending the tournament with a total of 882, or 30 over par.
Oregon State led from start to finish and won the team title with an overall score of 821, finishing 31 under par. Oregon took second place at 14 under par, while Seattle University placed third at four under par.
Junior Ashton McArthur led Utah Tech individually by tying for thirteenth place at two under par (211), marking his fourth top-15 finish this season. McArthur opened with a two-under-par round that included one eagle and one birdie. After shooting a two-over-par round on Monday, he closed out the tournament with another two-under-par performance featuring four birdies.
Freshman David Liechty made history in Sunday’s opening round by recording only the second hole-in-one in Bandon Dunes history on the par-3 fifth hole. He finished tied for ninth after his first round but ended up in thirty-fourth place overall at three over par (216). Fellow freshman Joe Zhou also shot a first-round score of 68 and finished tied for fifty-first at seven over par (220).
Redshirt junior Braden Anderson started with a two-over-par round but finished ninety-third overall after higher scores in subsequent rounds. Utah Tech will take a three-week break before competing again at the Seattle U Redhawk Invitational on March 30-31 at Chambers Bay Golf Course.
