Utah Tech secured an 8-3 win over UNLV on April 28, wrapping up the non-conference portion of its 2026 home baseball schedule at Bruce Hurst Field.
The game saw Utah Tech overcome an early two-run deficit after UNLV scored twice in the first inning. The Trailblazers responded quickly, tying the score at 2-2 in their half of the first with a wild pitch and a Ryan Kroepel RBI single. Although they loaded the bases later that inning, they did not add to their tally.
Utah Tech took control in the second inning by scoring three runs with two outs. Kroepel drove in another run with a single to center field before Bryan Martinez delivered a ground-ball base hit through the left side, bringing home both Kroepel and Ty Johnsen following a single and a balk.
In the fourth inning, Utah Tech added three more runs. Kroepel led off with a triple off the center field wall and was driven home by Johnsen shortly after. Finnegan Stewart capped off the scoring for Utah Tech with a two-run homer to left center—his sixth of the season.
Eight pitchers combined for Utah Tech to limit UNLV to just one run and five hits from the second inning onward. Senior righthander Ryan Martinez earned his sixth win of the season during this bullpen game, while senior southpaw Brock Roundy recorded four strikeouts over nearly two innings of scoreless relief—a season high for him.
Kroepel led all hitters with three hits including his third career triple, while Hudson Manwaring (two doubles), Johnsen, and Stewart each collected two hits apiece as part of Utah Tech’s eleven-hit effort.
Looking ahead, Utah Tech will return to Western Athletic Conference play this weekend when it hosts Tarleton State for a three-game series between teams currently leading league standings.
