Utah Tech ended its five-game losing streak with a 17-13 win over Fresno State on March 19 at Bruce Hurst Field.
The game was marked by high scoring from both teams, with Utah Tech (14-8) overcoming an early deficit and ultimately securing the victory. The Trailblazers scored a season-high 17 runs, which proved necessary as Fresno State (7-13) kept the contest close throughout the night.
After falling behind 4-1, Utah Tech responded with a five-run second inning and followed up with six more runs in the third to take a commanding lead. Kyle McDaniel hit his fourth home run of the season, driving in three runs and giving Utah Tech its first lead. The team sent twelve batters to the plate in the third inning, collecting six hits and extending their advantage.
Fresno State answered back with five runs in the fourth inning and continued to challenge, eventually tying the game at 13-13 after an Owen Faust sacrifice fly in the eighth. However, Utah Tech regained control in their half of the eighth inning, capitalizing on a Bulldog error and timely hitting from McDaniel and Petey Soto Jr., who each contributed key RBIs.
Junior closer Kroepel moved from third base to pitch in the ninth inning and retired Fresno State in order to secure the win. McDaniel led Utah Tech offensively with three hits and five RBIs out of the leadoff spot. Soto Jr. also had three hits along with three RBIs and three runs scored. Miller Durham homered for his third consecutive game as part of a perfect night at the plate.
The two teams are scheduled to conclude their two-game series on Friday night at Bruce Hurst Field.
