Utah Tech lost its fifth consecutive game on March 17, falling to Brigham Young University 18-5 at Bruce Hurst Field.
The Trailblazers started strong, taking a 3-0 lead after two innings. Ryan Kroepel hit a two-run home run in the first inning, marking his team-leading fifth homer of the season. Kyle McDaniel added an RBI single in the second inning to extend Utah Tech’s early advantage.
BYU responded with a seven-run rally in the third inning and added five more runs in the sixth, building a commanding 12-3 lead. Utah Tech narrowed the gap in the sixth when Miller Durham hit his fourth home run of the year, a two-run shot that brought the score to 12-5. However, BYU scored again in the seventh and added five more runs in the ninth inning.
Kroepel led Utah Tech’s offense by going 3-for-4 at the plate with a walk and scoring two runs. The Trailblazers finished with eight hits for the night.
Utah Tech will continue its three-game homestand this Thursday and Friday against Fresno State. Both games are scheduled to begin at 6:05 p.m. Mountain Time.
