Utah Tech University Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Ken Beazer announced on Apr. 2 that women’s basketball head coach JD Gustin will not return for the 2026-27 season.
The decision marks the end of a decade-long tenure for Gustin, who led the Trailblazers through significant transitions and achievements. Beazer said, “We are grateful for the dedication and leadership Coach Gustin has shown over the past 10 years. His commitment has left an indelible impression upon our women’s basketball program, and established a solid foundation for future growth. We wish him and his family the very best.”
Gustin compiled an overall record of 113 wins and 151 losses during his time at Utah Tech. He guided the team through its last four seasons in NCAA Division II before moving into six seasons competing at the Division I level.
During his tenure, Gustin’s teams recorded four seasons with at least 15 wins, including a standout year in 2022-23 when Utah Tech went 19-12 and earned its first Western Athletic Conference (WAC) postseason tournament victory. In the most recent season, Utah Tech finished with a record of nine wins and twenty losses, tying for sixth place in WAC standings with a conference record of four wins to fourteen losses.
Under Gustin’s leadership, players received twelve all-conference honors—including four first-team selections—and sixty-six academic all-conference recognitions.
A national search to find Utah Tech’s next women’s basketball head coach will begin immediately.
