The Utah Tech Trailblazers lost both games of a doubleheader against the UT Arlington Mavericks on April 17 at Karl Brooks Field. The Trailblazers fell 15-4 in the first game and 12-1 in five innings in the second game.
The results mark another setback for Utah Tech, which now holds a record of 16-27 overall and 3-8 in Western Athletic Conference play. The Mavericks improved to 20-21 overall and 8-6 in conference games.
In the first game, Utah Tech led by three runs after five innings, but surrendered fourteen unanswered runs as UT Arlington rallied late. Senior outfielder Sadie Phillips led her team with three hits, including two singles, scored twice, and drove in one run. Fellow senior Lakaiya-Braessia Kahahawai-Kekona added a single, a double, drew a walk, and drove in two runs. Sauren Garton pitched six innings for Utah Tech before being relieved by Delaney Wright and Riley Price.
During the second game, Kinley Pappas hit her ninth home run of the season for Utah Tech while Kahahawai-Kekona recorded her twelfth multi-hit game this year. Lexie Wilson started as pitcher for her eighth time this season before Cemryn Pickett finished out the contest.
The Trailblazers will conclude their series against UT Arlington on Saturday at noon. Before that final matchup, they plan to honor three members of their program who have been inducted into the Utah Tech Athletics Hall of Fame.
