The Utah Tech Trailblazers won against the San Diego Toreros, 11-9, on April 6 in a softball game held at the Reggie Smith Softball Complex.
The contest was marked by frequent lead changes and high offensive output from both teams. The Trailblazers fell behind early, trailing 7-3 after two innings, but responded with a six-run third inning to take the lead. Utah Tech added more runs late in the game to secure the victory.
Abby Davidson led Utah Tech’s offense by going three-for-three off the bench, scoring three runs and driving in one run. Freshman Summer Sanderson hit her sixth home run of the season and contributed three runs batted in. Baylee Howley and Kennedy Embrey each recorded a double as part of their multi-hit performances.
On the pitching side, Cemryn Pickett and Riley Price started for Utah Tech before Delaney Wright entered for the final five-and-one-third innings. Wright allowed only three hits and two runs while striking out six batters to earn her third win of the season.
The Trailblazers began scoring with a two-run home run by Sanderson in the first inning. Despite San Diego’s five-run response in their half of that frame, Utah Tech managed to regain control through timely hitting and key defensive plays throughout the game.
Utah Tech will continue its California road trip with a doubleheader against CSU Bakersfield scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
