The Southern Utah Thunderbirds track and field team participated in the Bryan Clay Multi, Utah Spring Classic, and Weber State Spring Classic during a busy weekend, according to an April 11 announcement.
These competitions are important opportunities for athletes to gain experience and improve their performances ahead of future meets. The events included decathlon, heptathlon, sprints, hurdles, and field competitions.
Jared Sharp led the men’s team in the decathlon by finishing eighth overall with 6,310 points. His results included a win in the 1,500 meters (4:22.23), fifth place in the 400 meters (49.95), and clearing 4.20 meters in pole vault. Nathan Anderson finished tenth with 5,226 points after placing second in the 400 meters (50.86) and seventh both in the 110-meter hurdles (16.03) and javelin throw (42.38m). In other events, Tanner Crosland achieved a personal best of 56.17 seconds for sixth place in the 400-meter hurdles; Caiden Garcia-Casey ran times of 11.28 seconds for the 100 meters and 15.60 seconds for the 110-meter hurdles; Quincy Esplin threw for marks of 45.17 meters in hammer throw and reached a distance of 32.28 meters in discus.
On the women’s side, freshman Lily Collier placed fifteenth overall among heptathletes with a total score of 4,254 points—her best performance was fifth place in the 800 meters at a time of 2:24.70 along with clearing a height of 1.53 meters in high jump; she also recorded times or distances such as a mark of 26.22 seconds in the 200 meters and a long jump distance of 5.16 meters.
In open races on the women’s side Harmony Lopez ran her race at just over one minute (1:02:49) for fourth hundred meter event while Addison Wilcox posted fifteen point twenty-seven seconds (15:27) during one hundred meter hurdle competition.
