Cost of college went up for all students at Southern Utah University

In-state tuition and fees rose 1.4 percent for 2018-19 at Southern Utah University, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Utah residents paid $6,770 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $94 more than the $6,676 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 204.1 percent more than residents this year, or $20,586. Their price tag grew 1.5 percent from $20,288 in 2017-18.

About 73 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Utah residents. About 23 percent are residents of other states and 4 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 93 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 1,622 students received grants or scholarships totaling $12.6 million and 999 students took out student loans totaling more than $4.3 million.

Including all undergraduates (10,196), 6,932 students used grants or scholarships totaling $49.7 million, and 7,341 students took out $33.4 million in federal student loans.
