Southern Utah women’s gymnastics sets season high in win over UC Davis

Southern Utah University’s women’s gymnastics team secured a victory over UC Davis on Friday night, achieving a season-high score of 196.925 to 193.525 at the America First Event Center in Cedar City. This win improves Southern Utah’s home record to 2-1 for the season and keeps them undefeated (3-0) against Mountain Pacific Sports Federation opponents.

Junior Niya Randolph led the team, winning first place in the all-around with a score of 39.450. Randolph also tied for second on vault, placed first on bars, and finished first on floor exercise. Senior Kayla Pardue posted the top vault score, while junior Elliot Bringhurst tied for second on vault and took second place on beam. Sophomore Mia Hampton tied for first place on bars with a 9.875 and claimed first place on beam with a 9.925. Junior Maria Ferguson secured third place on beam with a 9.875.

The team matched its program record on vault with a combined score of 49.325 and led UC Davis throughout all rotations.

On vault, Southern Utah started strong as Mackenzie Kelly scored a 9.600 to open the rotation, followed by Elliot Bringhurst’s 9.875 and Kayla Pardue’s season-high tying 9.925 performance. Niya Randolph contributed a 9.875 as part of her all-around competition.

On bars, Alex Routsis led off with a routine scoring 9.750; Mia Hampton added another key performance with her own 9.875; Randolph continued her consistency with another routine scoring 9.875.

For beam routines, Randolph began with a score of 9.800 before Hampton delivered her career-best performance at 9.925; Emma Nipper earned a solid score of 9.800; Bringhurst rebounded from an earlier fall to post her season-best at 9.900; Ferguson closed out the rotation at 9.875.

On floor exercise, Hampton opened with a score of 9.850; Miller set her career high at this event with a score of 9.900; Fernandez added a routine worth 9.825; Martinez matched that number as well before Hall posted another strong performance at 9.850; Randolph completed her all-around effort by scoring another impressive mark of 9.900.

Southern Utah will next compete against Utah State at home Monday, March 2nd at 6:30 p.m., an event that will be streamed online through overnght.com and have live statistics available via virti.us.
