The Southern Utah women’s basketball team has been chosen to participate in the 2026 Women’s National Invitation Tournament, according to an announcement by tournament officials on March 15. The Thunderbirds are among 48 teams invited to compete in the event’s 28th edition.
Southern Utah earned an at-large bid after finishing the season with a 19-12 overall record and an 11-7 mark in the Western Athletic Conference. The team was particularly strong at home, achieving a 13-1 record at the America First Event Center and securing notable nonconference victories over Washington State and Eastern Washington.
Throughout the season, Southern Utah relied on balanced scoring from its roster. Sierra Chambers led with an average of 14.9 points per game, while Ava Uhrich contributed 14.1 points and a team-high 9.7 rebounds per game. Brooklyn Fely also made significant contributions, averaging 12.7 points and 8.4 rebounds per game.
The Women’s National Invitation Tournament is organized by Triple Crown Sports, which is based in Fort Collins, Colorado, and has managed youth, high school, and collegiate sporting events for more than four decades.
