Southern Utah University’s volleyball program held its first glow-in-the-dark tournament in Cedar City, reaching full capacity with 12 teams participating. The event was organized to support the volleyball program and attracted more participants than expected for a first-year event.
“We had the maximum amount of teams that we could have in the tournament, which was a great start for our first year. Jensen said. I am excited to take that momentum and make it even bigger next year.”
The tournament featured prizes for the top three finishing teams. With sponsorship support, hoodies and T-shirts were awarded to the first- and second-place teams, while all participants received tournament T-shirts and glow sticks.
This glow-in-the-dark tournament served as the program’s second fundraiser of the year. The funds raised will be used to help cover travel, equipment, and other operational costs for Southern Utah volleyball.
In addition to raising money, student-athletes from the Thunderbirds team participated by working at and officiating the tournament, providing them with community service experience.
Feedback from attendees was positive, leading organizers to consider making this an annual tradition as part of their efforts to strengthen ties within Cedar City.
Head Coach Danielle Jensen said:
“Thank you to our sponsors and everyone that helped put this tournament together. Also, thank you to the community for supporting the fundraiser. We are hoping that next year we can build from this and create new traditions at Southern Utah University.”
