Southern Utah University Athletics announced on Apr. 3 the appointment of Steven Lindquist as the new head coach of the Thunderbirds women’s soccer program. Lindquist, who has served as interim head coach for the past two months, will now take on the role full-time after overseeing spring training and offseason recruiting.
Lindquist’s promotion is seen as a move toward continuity for the program. He has been part of Southern Utah’s staff since 2021, progressing from volunteer assistant to associate head coach over several seasons. During this time, he played a key role in what has been described as one of the most successful periods in program history.
As interim head coach, Lindquist managed team training sessions and led recruiting efforts for upcoming seasons. He also contributed significantly to player development—especially among defenders and goalkeepers—which helped Southern Utah set records for shutouts in a season and individual shutouts.
Lindquist’s experience includes previous coaching roles at Oakland University, where he worked with multiple All-Horizon League selections and helped make that program a regular postseason contender. His background also covers coaching at Washtenaw Community College, Michigan Premier Soccer Academy, and Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in education from Valparaiso University and a master’s degree in higher education leadership from Oakland University. With his appointment now official, Lindquist aims to build on recent momentum as Southern Utah returns to compete in the Big Sky Conference.
