The Southern Utah University Dance Team announced on May 11 that auditions for the 2026–27 season will take place on May 22 and May 23 at the SUU campus in Cedar City, Utah. Prospective dancers are invited to demonstrate their technical skills, performance quality, and stage presence during the two-day event.
The announcement is significant for students interested in joining a nationally competitive collegiate dance program. The team supports university athletic events and participates in national competitions each year.
According to the schedule released by the team, check-in begins at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, May 22, followed by an audition clinic until 8:00 p.m. Auditions continue Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to approximately 2:00 p.m., with cuts possible throughout the process. Additional location details will be provided later.
Applicants must register online and pay a $75 audition fee via cash or Venmo (@sammantha-tanner-baxter). Required items include any documents not uploaded through registration, dance shoes, tennis shoes, water, and snacks. The audition material will focus on pom, jazz, and hip hop styles. Dancers should arrive in fitted dancewear with full hair and makeup suitable for collegiate performances.
Required skills include advanced flexibility (such as toe touch and switch tilt jumps), quad pirouettes, advanced à la seconde turns with variations like floats or changing spots; acro moves such as kip-up, headspring or aerial; as well as strong performance quality and audience engagement abilities. Team members are expected to attend weekly practices (about six to ten hours per week) along with choreography sessions and appearances at home football games, volleyball matches, basketball games for both men’s and women’s teams, gymnastics meets and other university or community events.
All members must be enrolled full-time at SUU (minimum of twelve credit hours), maintain at least a 2.5 GPA, represent the university positively in public appearances including community service opportunities—and participate fully throughout the season which includes competing at USA Collegiate Championships scheduled for February 20–21 next year in Anaheim.
