Southern Utah University’s track and field teams competed in two meets, the UNLV Rebels ELITE in Las Vegas and the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, California, according to an April 4 announcement. The Thunderbirds achieved several top finishes, including event wins in the men’s 5,000 meters and women’s javelin.
The results highlight strong performances from both the men’s and women’s squads. These meets provided athletes with opportunities to set personal bests and achieve season-best marks against competitive fields.
On the men’s side at UNLV, Joshua Hernandez won the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:08.63 and placed seventh in the 1,500 meters with a personal-best of 4:02.24. At Stanford, Kadan Allen finished second in the men’s 800 meters (1:49.60), while Richard Crane took sixth place in the 1,500 meters (3:49.91). Tyler Myrup earned third place with a personal-best time of 48.10 seconds in the 400 meters. Isley Gutierrez finished fifth in the 110-meter hurdles (14.16). In field events, Dallan Demille (49.11m) and Zsombor Takacs (48.18m) secured second and third places respectively in discus throw; Bronis MacDougall was third in javelin (64.61m); Wilmarson Van Hecke set a personal best for fifth place in hammer throw (55.07m). The men’s relay team posted a season-best time of 3:15.69 for third place.
For Southern Utah’s women’s team at UNLV, Jaylee Gandert won the javelin with a mark of 47.05 meters; Sydney Gibson ran ninth with a personal best of 14.35 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles and finished fifth overall in the 400-meter hurdles (1:01.89). Claire Hoenes ran her fastest-ever time to finish fourth overall at two minutes twenty-five point ninety-two seconds for eighth hundred meters; Jessica Jericoff placed fifth for hammer throw (53.60m); Brooke Lynch finished seventh for discus (40.57m) as well as eighth for hammer throw (50.75m); Chayanne Gordon placed fifth for shot put throwing thirteen point zero six meters—a season best result.
Sprinters Timmia Rucks (12.15) and Sabrina Wright (12.42) both recorded new personal records over one hundred meter dash distances while their relay teammates completed their race eighth overall running forty-seven point thirty-two seconds—another season benchmark.
The Thunderbirds’ performances across these meets reflect continued progress during this portion of their outdoor schedule.
