Southern Utah University will conclude its regular women’s gymnastics season against Boise State on March 13, according to a March 11 announcement. The meet is scheduled for Friday night in Boise, beginning at 6:00 p.m. Mountain Time, and will be available for viewing on the Mountain West Network.
The matchup marks a return to the opponent that opened Southern Utah’s season. The Flippin’ Birds enter the contest following a win over Washington, where they posted a score of 196.900 to Washington’s 195.550. Junior Niya Randolph set a program record on floor with a score of 9.975 and also took first place in vault and bars, finishing with an all-around total of 39.575. Senior Kayla Pardue placed second on vault, while Mia Hampton and Rylee Miller tied for first on beam at 9.900, with Maria Ferguson taking third.
Boise State comes into the meet ranked No. 42 nationally and has shown improvement throughout the season, particularly on bars and beam where they are ranked No. 36 and No. 38 respectively. In their most recent competition against California, Boise State achieved season-high scores on both bars (49.100) and beam (49.150). Sophomore Kristina Shchennikova led the Broncos on bars with a career-best score of 9.925.
Southern Utah currently holds national rankings of No. 26 overall, No. 30 in vault and bars, No. 21 in floor, and No. 25 in beam based on average scores this season. The team leads the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) in all four events so far this year.
The Flippin’ Birds have swept MPSF Weekly awards five times this season and have accumulated twenty conference weekly honors among several gymnasts including Randolph, Hall, Hampton, Pardue, Bringhurst, Collum, and Routsis. In addition to individual accolades from last year—including Niya Randolph being named MPSF Gymnast of the Year for a second consecutive time—the coaching staff was recognized as well.
Southern Utah has won three consecutive conference championships across two different conferences—winning their final title in the Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference before moving to MPSF where they secured two more titles.
