The Southern Utah Thunderbirds track and field team will compete at the Bryan Clay Invitational this week, according to an April 15 announcement. The event, held in Azusa, California, is recognized as one of the top meets of the outdoor season and attracts leading collegiate and professional athletes from across the country.
The meet offers athletes a significant opportunity to achieve personal bests and secure qualifications for national championships. The Thunderbirds aim to capitalize on this high level of competition as they continue their outdoor campaign.
In their most recent outing, Southern Utah’s men’s team saw Jared Sharp finish eighth overall in the decathlon with 6,310 points. Sharp won the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:22.23 and placed fifth in the 400 meters at 49.95 seconds while clearing 4.20 meters in pole vault. Nathan Anderson finished tenth with 5,226 points after placing second in the 400 meters (50.86) and seventh in both the 110-meter hurdles (16.03) and javelin (42.38m). In open events, Tanner Crosland set a personal best of 56.17 seconds for sixth place in the 400-meter hurdles; Caiden Garcia-Casey ran times of 11.28 seconds in the 100 meters and 15.60 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles; Quincy Esplin recorded throws of 45.17 meters (hammer) and 32.28 meters (discus).
On the women’s side, freshman Lily Collier led with a fifteenth-place finish overall in heptathlon by scoring a total of 4,254 points—her strongest result was fifth place in the 800 meters at a time of 2:24.70—and also cleared 1.53 meters in high jump along with marks of 26.22 seconds in the 200-meters race and a long jump distance of 5.16 meters.
Additional performances included Harmony Lopez running a time of 1:02.49 in her open section race over four hundred metres while Addison Wilcox completed her hundred metre hurdle event posting fifteen point two seven seconds.
