Southern Utah University had 14 student-athletes named to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation’s Women’s Gymnastics All-Academic Team, according to an announcement made on April 20. The recognition highlights the team’s achievements in both academics and athletics during the recent season.
The honor requires gymnasts to maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average, be sophomores or above academically, complete a full year at their institution, and compete in at least half of the team’s meets. This standard underscores both academic commitment and athletic participation among recipients.
The Southern Utah honorees are Elliot Bringhurst, Marisa de Groot, Maria Ferguson, Alyssa Fernandez, Mia Hampton, Mackenzie Kelly, Carilia Martinez, Kendall McGuire, Rylee Miller, Emma Nipper, Sage Paladino, Kayla Pardue, Niya Randolph, and Alex Routsis. The group includes mostly juniors along with two sophomores and one senior from a range of majors such as exercise science and marketing.
This academic achievement follows another successful season for Southern Utah gymnastics. The team recently captured its fourth consecutive conference championship—and third straight since joining the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation—continuing what has been described as a dominant run for the program.
Looking ahead to July when Southern Utah transitions into the PAC-12 Conference under Head Coach Scotty Bauman’s leadership, maintaining high standards in both academics and athletics remains a key focus for the staff. “Head Coach Scotty Bauman and his staff will take the team into the offseason. The Flippin’ Birds have secured four straight conference titles and will make the move to the PAC-12 in July, returning a team that is deep and hungry for success at the highest level.”
