The Southern Utah University (SUU) men’s golf team is preparing for its second tournament of the fall season at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate, which will take place from February 23 to 25 at The Classic Club in Palm Desert, California. The event, hosted by the University of Wyoming, features a par-72 course that measures 7,305 yards.
The field includes teams such as Wyoming, Valparaiso, Oral Roberts, Northern Iowa, CSUN, CSUF, Hawaii, Southern Utah, Utah Tech, Drake, UCSB, Maryland, Seattle U, UC Irvine, California Baptist, Cal Poly, UC Riverside, Colorado, East Texas A&M, Eastern Washington, Omaha, Sacramento State and College of the Desert. Several participants are members of the Western Athletic Conference.
The format for the tournament is a 54-hole competition with one round played each day. Live scoring will be available on the tournament scoreboard.
Southern Utah’s lineup consists of Uy Doan in the first position followed by Charlie Gillespie, Jing-Cheng (Jarell) Wang, Braylon Bingham and Luke Barnes.
Reflecting on their previous outing at the Bill Cullum Invitational:
Uy Doan led SUU with a tie for 10th place at 224 (+8). He began and ended with rounds of 73 and recorded an eagle in his opening round along with two birdies in his final round.
Charlie Gillespie finished tied for 16th at 226 (+10), posting rounds of 76-76-74. His performance included seven birdies and an eagle.
Braylon Bingham tied for 24th at 228 (+12), shooting three consecutive rounds of 76. Luke Barnes finished tied for 46th at 234 (+18), delivering SUU’s lowest round—a steady even-par 73 featuring three birdies and three bogeys.
Jing-Cheng (Jarell) Wang contributed a score of 238 (+22), highlighted by a first-round score of 77.
Colton Cherry and Boston Dixon competed as individuals and placed T56 and 63rd respectively.
Facing several West Coast programs during that event allowed SUU to secure a top-five finish as they continue their spring campaign. The team collectively made thirty birdies and two eagles over fifty-four holes.
