The Southern Utah University (SUU) men’s golf team competed in the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate at the Classic Club in Palm Desert, California, finishing tied for 17th place with a total score of 27 over par.
True freshman Uy Doan led SUU by tying for 46th individually at two over par. Doan’s performance included a second-round score of 70, which was two under par and marked the team’s lowest round of the tournament. He made eight birdies during the three rounds, with four coming in his best round.
Charlie Gillespie finished next for SUU, tying for 63rd place at five over par after posting rounds of 75, 72, and 74. Braylon Bingham followed closely behind in a tie for 68th at six over par. Bingham’s highlight came in the second round when he shot a one-under-par 71 and made five birdies on the front nine, including four consecutive birdies.
Jing-Cheng (Jarell) Wang completed the event tied for 102nd at fifteen over par. Luke Barnes rounded out SUU’s lineup with a score of twenty-four over par.
Southern Utah’s best team performance came during the second round when they posted a combined score of 289. The tournament featured strong competition from other collegiate teams. According to SUU officials, “The experience gained this week will help SUU continue building momentum heading into the remainder of the spring schedule.”
The Thunderbirds will compete again next month at The Watney Invitational hosted by Fresno State on March 2-3 at San Joaquin Country Club in Fresno, California.
