The Southern Utah University (SUU) Men’s Golf team is set to compete in the Jackrabbit Invitational at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada, on March 9-10. The event, hosted by South Dakota State, will feature teams including Western Illinois, North Dakota, Northern Iowa, Youngstown State, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical (AZ), Morehead State, Missouri State, IU-Indianapolis, and Kansas City.
The tournament will be played on a par 72 course measuring 7,300 yards. Teams will play 36 holes on Monday and finish with 18 holes on Tuesday. Each day’s competition begins with an 8:00 a.m. PT shotgun start.
Southern Utah’s lineup for the invitational includes Uy Doan, Braylon Bingham, Charlie Gillespie, Luke Barnes, and Colton Cherry.
In their previous outing at The Watney Invitational, Braylon Bingham led SUU by finishing tied for 22nd at +6 after opening with a round of 73 and following up with an even-par 71 in the second round. Uy Doan finished tied for 48th at +11 and recorded a final-round score of 73 (+2). Charlie Gillespie was close behind in a tie for 52nd at +12 after rounds of 77, 73, and 75.
Jing-Cheng (Jarell) Wang posted a score of +23 to place 73rd while Sky Moon finished at +25 but delivered the team’s best final round with a score of 72 (+1).
Over the course of three rounds totaling 54 holes at The Watney Invitational, SUU recorded a total of 21 birdies and one eagle. The team improved its performance as the tournament progressed by reducing its total strokes by nine from the first to the last round against strong West Coast opponents.
Colton Cherry will make his spring debut at this event. Luke Barnes enters following his second-best tournament round this season—a score of +4 (76) during the final round of the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate.
