Utah Tech junior Samantha Phelan was named Western Athletic Conference Women’s Golf Player of the Week on April 16 for her performance at the Montana State Bobcat Desert Classic.
This recognition highlights Phelan’s strong showing, where she finished in a three-way tie for runner-up honors and helped Utah Tech secure third place as a team. Her achievement is notable as it marks her collegiate-best finish and demonstrates consistent improvement throughout her career.
Phelan began the tournament with a 2-over-par 74 on Monday. She followed up with a bogey-free, 3-under-par 69 in the second round on Tuesday, moving up eighteen spots into a tie for sixth place. On Wednesday, she shot a 1-under-par 71 to end tied for second at two under par overall (214), matching two other players.
Over three days, Phelan recorded nine birdies and secured her sixth career top-five finish along with her ninth top-10 result overall. These accomplishments underscore her key role in Utah Tech’s golf program this season.
Looking ahead, Utah Tech will compete for its first conference title as the Trailblazers prepare to travel to Texas for the final Western Athletic Conference Women’s Golf Championships. The championship tournament is scheduled from April 20 to April 22 at The Clubs of Stonebridge Ranch in McKinney.
