The Mountain West Conference announced on April 29 its nine-team baseball schedule for the 2027 season, which will feature Utah Tech Trailblazers’ first appearance in league play.
This development is significant as it marks Utah Tech’s entry into the conference and highlights key matchups that will shape their inaugural campaign. The Trailblazers are set to host four three-game series at home, starting with Air Force Academy from April 2 to April 4. Other home opponents include Grand Canyon (April 16-18), San Jose State (April 30-May 2), and UNLV (May 20-22).
Utah Tech’s rivalry with Grand Canyon will continue under a new conference banner, extending a competitive history that began in the Pacific West Conference from 2007 to 2013 and continued in the Western Athletic Conference between 2021 and 2025. The team’s away games will see them face New Mexico during Easter weekend (March 25-28), as well as travel to Hawai’i (April 9-11), Nevada (April 23-25), and UC Davis (May 7-9).
“We are thrilled to be joining the Mountain West and excited about the year one conference schedule,” said Utah Tech Head Baseball Coach Chris Pfatenhauer. “The conference is littered with great weather and destination cities. Having played some these schools this year and in the past, we feel like the Mountain West will have tremendous competition and be a lot of fun for our student-athletes.”
All home Mountain West baseball games, including those during the conference tournament scheduled for May 27-30, will be broadcast on a new subscription platform launched by the league.
The addition of Utah Tech brings fresh competition to an already established group of programs within Mountain West baseball.
