Utah Tech junior second baseman Kyle McDaniel has been named the University Credit Union Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Baseball Player of the Week. The recognition comes after his performance in four road games last week.
McDaniel, a 6-foot-3 player from Pahrump, Nevada, started all four games in the lead-off spot. He recorded a .389 batting average (7-for-18), with two extra base hits, six runs batted in (RBI), two stolen bases, and two runs scored.
In Utah Tech’s 14-4 win at CSU Bakersfield last Wednesday, McDaniel went 3-for-6 at the plate, driving in a career-high five RBI along with one stolen base and one run scored. During the series against Pacific, he hit .333 (4-for-12), getting hits in each game. His performance included a 2-for-5 outing with a double and a run scored in Thursday’s opener. On Friday night, he hit a solo home run to help secure a 2-1 victory and added an RBI single during Saturday’s 8-5 win that clinched the series.
McDaniel also extended his NCAA era school record on-base streak to 49 consecutive games and set a new program record for hitting safely in 22 straight games. His RBI-hit last Saturday broke the previous record of 21 consecutive games held by Jake Engel from 2019 to 2021.
Utah Tech completed its season-opening eight-game road trip with seven wins and will begin its home schedule with an eight-game homestand starting this Friday against Northern Colorado at Bruce Hurst Field.
