Kaylee Borden named WAC Newcomer of the Week for third time

Utah Tech redshirt senior guard Kaylee Borden was named Jersey Mike’s A Sub Above Western Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Newcomer of the Week on Mar. 9.

This recognition marks the third time Borden has received the WAC Newcomer of the Week honor during the current season. The award follows her performance in Utah Tech’s regular season-ending road game against Utah Valley, where she led all scorers with 24 points despite a 71-59 loss.

Borden shot 9-of-20 from the field and made a career-high six three-pointers out of twelve attempts. She also contributed nine rebounds, four assists, and two steals while playing all 40 minutes of the game. The senior guard narrowly missed recording her second double-double of the year.

At the close of the regular season, Borden is ranked as the Western Athletic Conference’s second-leading scorer with an average of 15.9 points per game. She is also among the conference leaders in several categories: fourth in made three-pointers (1.82 per game), fifth in field goal percentage (.408), eighth in assists (2.64 per game), and nineteenth in rebounding (4.43 per game).

Utah Tech is preparing for its final appearance at “WAC Vegas” as the No. 7 seed Trailblazers are set to face No. 6 seed UT Arlington in the opening round of the 2026 WAC Women’s Basketball Tournament. The match-up will take place Wednesday afternoon, March 11, at 3 p.m., inside Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.
