Junior gymnast Elliot Bringhurst has been named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Specialist of the Week, according to an announcement from the conference on Monday. This is her first weekly award of the 2026 season and the second in her collegiate career.
Bringhurst, who is from Henderson, Nevada, competed in a recent meet against No. 13 Utah in Salt Lake City. She performed a balance beam routine that earned a season-high score of 9.900, tying for second place overall on that event and helping Southern Utah achieve a team score of 49.100 in the final rotation.
Earlier in the same meet, Bringhurst also contributed on vault with a score of 9.800, supporting Southern Utah’s team total of 49.025 on that apparatus.
Head Coach Scotty Bauman said: “The Henderson, Nevada native delivered a clutch performance on the road as the Flippin’ Birds faced No. 13 Utah in Salt Lake City. In a high-pressure road environment against the Red Rocks, Bringhurst stepped up in Southern Utah’s balance beam lineup with a season-high 9.900, tying for second place overall on the event. Her routine capped a strong 49.100 team score in the final rotation.”
Bringhurst has developed into one of Southern Utah’s most reliable competitors on beam. Last season she was recognized as MPSF Specialist of the Week during Week 2 and finished with a National Qualifying Score (NQS) average of 9.81 on beam. She recorded several notable performances last year, including scoring 9.925 at Utah State and helping to steady her team’s lineup early in the season.
During her freshman year, Bringhurst competed twice on beam and posted an early career-high score of 9.750 at the MPSF Conference Championship while averaging 9.725 for that event.
Before joining Southern Utah University, she was successful at club level gymnastics—winning a national championship on beam and three state titles in floor exercise in Nevada.
With this latest recognition, Bringhurst continues to be an important contributor for Southern Utah’s gymnastics program.
Southern Utah will next compete against UC Davis at home at America First Event Center on Friday, February 27 at 6:30 p.m MT; fans can watch live via overnght.com or follow live statistics through virti.us.
