The facility operates as a for-profit nursing home.

In that period, the home earned an overall CMS score of five, surpassing Utah’s statewide nursing home average of 3.4. CMS assessments review essential elements including health inspections, staffing, and the quality of care offered to residents.

The data shows Southern Utah Veterans Home – Ivins cared for an average of 101.8 residents daily during the first quarter of 2026, with capacity for 108 residents. The facility is not affiliated with a hospital.

Estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau show the country’s population of older adults is growing while the number of younger people declines. Between 2020 and 2024, Americans age 65 and up increased by 13%, and the group under 18 declined by 1.7%. Over the last 100 years, the older adult population has surged from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million by 2024.

A 2021 analysis found that close to half of Americans in this age group—about 28 million—may need long-term services and support, with projections indicating more than a third could ultimately enter nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
